Dear Mr. and Mrs. Devereaux,
My name is Jami Thompson and I received the Maureen McLaughlin Devereaux Scholarship this year. I want to take the chance to thank you so much for establishing this scholarship. This scholarship helps me greatly because I live in a single-parent household. I also have a younger sister who will be attending college very shortly.
I'm a sophomore from Harvard, Ill. My major is elementary education with a minor in Spanish. I've wanted to become a teacher ever since I was in fifth grade. At NIU, I'm involved in the Student Education Association, the Sophomore Honors Society, and other academic organizations. When I graduate from NIU, I hope to teach fourth or fifth grade in a small-town community. Receiving this scholarship helps ease the financial burden that has been placed on my mother and me. Thank you so much again, and I appreciate this so very much.
Northern Illinois University has designated the NIU Foundation as the charitable organization to receive and manage all gifts on its behalf.
